JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION:  Recreation Manager – Buford City Gym

CLASSIFICATION: Full-time/Salary

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in public or business administration, recreation and parks administration or a related field. 
  • Minimum of two years of experience in recreation management and/or facility operation preferred.
  • Strong skills in written and oral communication.
  • Skills in working with appropriate technology including hardware and software.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Possession of a valid Georgia Class C driver’s license.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Serves as Manager for the Buford City Gym for all programs, rentals, and events as well as oversees staffing of the facility.

  • Develop, manage, and direct all city sponsored recreational programs conducted at the gym.
  • Conduct tours and site visits for prospective rental groups.
  • Manage the contracting of rental groups including event detail meetings to ensure event success.
  • Manage conduct issues of coaches, players, attendees, and renters for all events including city sponsored recreation programs, rental teams, open gym, and other rental groups.  The gym plans to incorporate an outdoor playground and successful candidate will manage and maintain these facilities.
  • Develop and/or administer gym policies and procedures.
  • Market and promote city sponsored recreational programs for the gym.
  • Oversee all fire and life safety systems to ensure they remain in proper working order and up to date on all inspections.
  •  Ensure overall building coverage for walk-in customers and other scheduled events as needed.
  • Manage the overall facility maintenance, cleanliness, and upkeep including exterior grounds.
  • Select, supervise, and train gym staff.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Job entails work hours that will include nights, weekends and may include some holidays.  Successful applicant must be flexible and willing to work diligently to implement the City’s vision and programs.
  • Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability to work in an office setting and operate office equipment.  Sitting and upward and downward flexion of neck; fine finger dexterity; light to moderate finger pressure to manipulate keyboard, equipment controls, and office equipment; pinch grasp to manipulate writing utensils.  Frequent side-to-side turning of neck, walking, standing, bending, stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting at waist; moderate wrist torque to twist equipment knobs and dials; lifting objects weighing up to 20 lbs. from below waist to above shoulders and transporting distances up to 50 yards.  Occasional squatting, kneeling, and reaching above and at shoulder height;   lifting objects weighing 20-35 lbs. from below waist to above shoulders and transporting distances up to 50 feet.  Miscellaneous moving/carrying of recreational equipment, accessories, tables, chairs and similar.
